Potholes on Black Mountain Road Filled: One Step Closer to Fiesta de los Peñasquitos Returning Home

Serving as President of the Rancho Peñasquitos Town Council allows me to advocate for the everyday things that truly matter to our community. Recently, one of those priorities was addressing the potholes along Black Mountain Road. Not only do these repairs make our roads safer for drivers and bicyclists, but they also bring us one step closer to something our community loves deeply: the return of Fiesta de Los Peñasquitos to its longtime home.

What Role Did the Rancho Peñasquitos Town Council Play in These Repairs?

As Town Council President and alongside our Vice President, Mary Siapno, we worked hard to push this forward. On a Thursday, we got on a call with Councilmember Marni von Wilpert’s office and submitted a Get It Done San Diego claim to address the road conditions. Later that same day, we received an email letting us know the potholes would be filled by Saturday. That kind of responsiveness makes a real difference for neighborhoods like ours. The reason for the urgency? In order to move forward with permitting for the Fiesta de Los Peñasquitos, insurance is needed ASAP. To obtain the insurance we needed, the potholes needed to be filled. Time was of the essence.

How Quickly Were the Potholes Repaired After Reporting Them?

Sure enough, City of San Diego crews were out on Black Mountain Road at 6 am Saturday morning, getting to work. Mary and I were lucky enough to run into them and chat for a bit while they were filling the potholes. These workers take real pride in what they do and work incredibly hard for our city, often without much recognition. Seeing them in action was a great reminder of how much effort goes into maintaining our local infrastructure.

Because of their work, Black Mountain Road is safer for our community, our vehicles, and our bike paths. Just as importantly, these repairs move us closer to welcoming back Fiesta de Los Peñasquitos, a long-running, much-loved community event that brings neighbors together and celebrates what makes Rancho Peñasquitos special.
